Industrial Hemp Project
Evaluation Checklist
Use this checklist before specifying, buying, growing, or marketing an industrial hemp material. It is designed to expose the questions that generic “hemp is better” claims miss: the actual application, required performance, processing route, supplier evidence, regulatory context, test methods, commercial constraints, and fallback plan.
Use the Checklist as a Gate, Not a Scorecard
A checked box means you have addressed the question—not that hemp is automatically the right choice. A project can score 100% and still conclude that a conventional material is the better fit. That is a successful evaluation.
Define the baseline
Start with the job the material must perform and the conventional option it would replace or compete against.
Ask for evidence
Use product data, test reports, certifications, EPDs, contracts, samples, and regulator guidance—not broad claims about hemp as a crop.
Record uncertainty
If a supplier cannot document a claim, mark it unresolved and treat it as a project risk rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
Keep a fallback
For deadline-sensitive work, identify an alternate material, supplier, or process before a single-source constraint becomes a schedule problem.

Use Current Regulator Guidance for Legal Questions
Hemp rules differ by jurisdiction and environmental-claim rules continue to evolve. These official sources are better starting points than a static checklist.
